What Does It Mean To Be Saved From My Sin?

I. Your position before God!

A. The Reality of sin.

1. Romans 3:10-12 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none

that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that

doeth good, no, not one."

2. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

3. The word of God shows us clearly that there are no good men, that we are all sinners before God. It is not a contest

between sinners that are terrible and bad, and sinners that we really don’t see as so bad. If someone steals only one

small thing from someone else, he is a thief.  You don’t have to steal many things of  great value to be a thief. It only

takes one sin to become a sinner before God, and we have all way passed that point.

B. We were born sinners.

1. We were all born sinners, because the sin nature was passed down to us from our father Adam, who sinned and

brought this sin nature to us.

2. Psalms 51:5 "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me."

3. Romans 5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon

all men, for that all have sinned:"

II. God has declared a great penalty for sin.

A. Before the first sin was committed.

1. Genesis 2:15-17 "And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of

the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

2. Adam ate of the fruit of the tree, and as we have seen, death passed upon all men. This was not a physical death

(the spirit of man separated from his body) but a spiritual death (man separated from God.)

B. God in His perfection cannot be in the presence of sin.

1. Habakkuk 1:13a "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cans’t not look on iniquity;"

2. Because we are sinners, we deserve death, (separation from God.) We deserve the punishment because we are

guilty.

C. Separation from God.

1. There is a permanent spiritual separation from God coming for all sinners.

2. Revelation 20:11-14 "And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and

heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and

the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of

those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in

it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their

works. And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death."

3. As a sinner standing before God; this is what all men face. This is what you face if you don’t accept the salvation

that God so freely offers through His Son Jesus Christ!

III. You cannot save yourself from God’s judgment!

A. Your walk cannot compare to God’s

1. All you can do to pay your own debt is to spend all eternity in the Lake of Fire.

2. The idea that a man can be good enough to erase his sin and win a place in heaven is not in the Bible, it’s not logical.

If a man commits murder, it doesn’t matter how good he is afterward. He is still a murderer and must pay for his

crime.

B.The Bible shows us how our righteousness appears before God.

1. Isaiah 64:6 "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as

a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind have taken us away."

2. Salvation is not by our good works. The Bible says plainly in Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through

faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. "

3. For those expecting to be saved by their works, the Bible says: Matthew 7:22-23 "Many will say to me in that

day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done

many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you:depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

IV. Salvation is only by faith in Jesus Christ.

A. Jesus is God made flesh.

1. Matthew 1:21, 23 "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his

people from thier sins. Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name

Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

2. Jesus came to save us from the penalty of sin. Luke 19:10 "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that

which was lost."

B. Jesus came to pay our sin debt.

1. Jesus came to take our place; to be our sin substitute.

2. Jesus died for you because He loves you and doesn’t want you to go to Hell! God made Hell for the Devil and his

angels.  Matthew 25:41 "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, depart from me, ye cursed, into

everlasting fire, prepared for the Devil and his angels:"

3. He doesn’t want you to go to Hell. There is no reason for anyone to go to Hell! Our sins have been paid for by the

death of Jesus Christ on the cross!

D. All you lack is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior.

1. John 3:16, 18 "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him

should not perish, but have everlasting life. He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is

condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

2. Will you believe and be saved? Or will you refuse to believe and be condemned forever to the Lake of Fire? Why

not decide now, and believe that Christ died on the cross to pay for your sin? Which way will you decide? Heaven... or

Hell?

                                         Its your choice!
